New date for XXXI Bárány Society Meeting

Dear colleagues

During the last month Spain and in particular Madrid has suffered the onslaught of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus that is still affecting many other countries in the world. The members of the Organizing, the Scientific and the Local Committees of the XXXI Barany Society Meeting want to thank those who put their lives in risk for all of us during this time. We also remember those who have lost their relatives: this disease has shown us its cruelest face in death.

This pandemic has left a bleak picture and an unknown future in health care and personal relationship. But also air travel and mobility restrictions to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 prevent us to organize the meeting: as such we have decided to postpone the Barany Society Congress.

My report to the President of the Barany Society just before this pandemic was an exciting one. The scientific program was almost closed by February: guest lectures, plenary sessions, symposia and controversy panels that attracted 200 participants, registered at that time. We were organizing the Scientific Topics from the almost 850 proposals for free papers submitted. The social program was ongoing as well some new events. The satellite meeting in Granada was fulfilling its purposes with a very interesting schedule both for science and joy as usually has been. Because of all this, but also of the individual and sponsors’ support to Barany 2020 in Madrid I have received these days and because we have to see a little further to be optimistic, we have decided to move the meeting to a new date. Currently, we are trying to fix the most convenient date with the Board of the Society. That will be, when the pandemic situation becomes controlled worldwide and air travel restrictions will allow the celebration of the meeting with safety.

Then, the XXXI Barany Society Meeting in Madrid will be a memorable event celebrating together the opportunity to share knowledge and friendship and most importantly remember these days and retain what we all were able to do for each other.

With our best wishes for all.
